Bill talked a lot about how drugs helped him see things more clearly. Was this true? Was he a different person before he started taking drugs and how did the drugs shape or change his thinking? What drugs did he do exactly?
I don't think he was a different person. I think it helped to open him up. Before he started taking drugs he used condemn people and make fun of them for taking drugs. He used to make fun of me for drinking beer in high school. With Bill, drug taking always was an experimental thing. Like we were going to take these whatever and try to see what it does and a lot of people around are just like, "Oh, brother, you know you're not different than anybody else who's just trying to get high." I used to just be, "Well wait a minute, this acid is for Bill. This acid is for medical research. It's for spiritual and scientific medical research. This isn't like some kind of a drug deal. We're not doing anything illegal here. No one is going to get hurt."

"You know, it's all true, it's all true. Jesus is my savior; Buddha is my savior, Krishna." |

As far as seeing things more clearly, well yeah, especially the first
time a kid takes acid or mushrooms or something like that, I mean you do have certain walls that come tumbling down and you realize that reality is just kind of a veil. Everybody has created their own different veil in that they all can depend on their lives; on their upbringing, on genetics, on everything they do, its all a combination. How many hits of acid a day to how many pieces of beef jerky you eat a day, you know, it's all part of the equation. Whether you had a chili dog before you took mushrooms, I don't know, it's all part of the equation. Instead of the phrase, "see things more clearly," I would say it is more like turning a key that peels away a wall, a wall that held you from seeing a certain perception. Bill was able to see all of these different perceptions and be able to just say, "You know, it's all true, it's all true. Jesus is my savior; Buddha is my savior, Krishna."

I mean, for one thing, after he did drugs or started doing drugs, he stopped condemning people that did drugs. This actually was a big deal because it helped bring Bill to a point where he didn't draw lines between people and it took Bill a while to get to the point of not thinking he was better than other people for various reasons. I think mushrooms were probably the first thing, with all the acid and a little bit of marijuana, not much marijuana. When he got into alcohol, he did tons of alcohol. That was the worst. First was cigarettes. He got into ecstasy and cocaine and also like little offshoot things, but those are probably the main ones and each one had like, their own stories and their own different things surrounding them.
