How did you end up being picked for the Letterman show?

I was working at Social Services and I got a call that they wanted me for Opening in 1982.

Do you remember anything from your very first Letterman appearance. I think you were featured on the very first show?

I was very nervous since I never did this before. It felt very strange, however, once it was over I felt very relaxed.

Do you still get nervous before sketches?

After all these years, I still get nervous, even on the Letterman Show.

How is working for CBS different than working for NBC?

There really is no difference, they are both production companies, there is just different employees.

What is your opinion on NBC not letting you keep the Larry "Bud" Melman name when you moved to CBS?

Letterman gave me the name. I don’t see all the fuss, it wasn’t theirs to start with. David gave me the name.

If you were not on the show, who would you rather watch at 11:30, Jay or Dave?

Dave.
