| Is there anything more nauseating than turning on the news and seeing an interview or a story on a celebrity who just happens to have a show on the same network? This blatant act of media inbreeding caused us to hesitate before running our interview with the creators of "The Parking Lot is Full", whose comic strip is featured daily on our website. However, after much fence sitting we decided to do the interview with the strips creators for we believe their work to be brilliantly funny and dangerously, almost psychotically, close to genius. "The Parking Lot is Full"
comic strip was created in 1992 by Jack McLaren and Rob Green who wished to focus on
University life. (The name comes from the constant parking problem at the University).
While sharing a house with a few friends, the comic strip slowly developed and in 1993 was
publishing in student paper at the University of Waterloo. Almost immediately the comic
strip developed vocal detractors, but also many fans who really understood and appreciated
the humor and sharpness of the cartoons. Two years later, after trimming the staff,
leaving only the founder Jack, and Pat Spacek, the strip made its way onto the web. We got turned on to the "The Parking Lot is Full" comic strip almost two years ago. With so many bland, cute and message-less comic strips, it was truly a pleasure to view something which was not only hilarious, but incredibly intelligent as well. Soon after that we started to run the comic strip on our site, where it is now featured daily. This interview aims to provide an insight into the mind and world of Jack McLaren and Pat Spacek, and details the dedicated collaboration and the creative process between two people who live thousands of miles apart. We hope you enjoy it!
